Everest Base Camp Trek (10 Days)

The world’s highest peak Mt Everest (8848m) lies in the Khumbu Region “The Sherpa’s Land”. Tengboche (3870m) is the main monastery of the Khumbu area. The views from here are unforgettable. In addition to the highest peak, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Yachungkang Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and a panoramic view of Khumbu Himalayas are seen from here. You can either chose a 10-days trek or a 17-days trek to the Everest Region. In the 10-days trek, you will trek to Tengbboch (3863m), crossing Phakding (2611m), Namche (3440m), and Khumjung (3791m). In the 17-days trek, you will reach Kaala Pathhar (5545m) passing through Namche (3440m), Tanboche (3863m), Pheriche (4240m), and Lobuje (4930m).

Day 01: Lukla and trek to Phakding (2,610 m), 4 hours

Day 02: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,445 m), 6 hours

Day 03: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860 m), 5 hours

Day 04: Trek to Dingboche (4,360 m), 4 hours

Day 05: Trek to Lobuche (4,930 m), 5 hours

Day 06: Trek to Gorak Shep (5,160 m) and Everest Base Camp, 7 hours

Day 07: Trek to Kala Pathar (5,545 m) and back to Pheriche (4,280 m), 7 hours

Day 08: Trek to Namche Bazaar, 6 hours

Day 09: Trek back to Lukla, 8 hours

Day 10: Fly to Kathmandu from Lukla and transfer to your Hotel 1 hour

 10 Days Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Day 01: Lukla and trek to Phakding

You’ll take an early flight from domestic terminal of International Airport, Kathmandu to Lukla. I’m sure that entire flying time you’ll keep engaged yourself with the awesome views of breathtaking mountains. After landing on Lukla and taking short rest, you’ll head towards Phakding by following the Dudh Koshi river and cross a suspension bridge. On the trail, you’ll see chorten, mani stone, and prayer flag.

On this first day trial, you’ll start to view beautiful mountains like Karyolung, Nupla, and Gongla. You’ll take rest at several stops for a tea break or lunch break. You’ll spend a night on Phakding.

Day 02: Phakding to Namche Bazaar

On the second day, after having hot breakfast you’ll head toward one of the biggest rest areas, Namche Bazaar.

The trial involves high climbing and steep steps through stunning forest, crossing river via swaying suspension bridges.

After long day hike and reaching in Namche Bazaar, you’ll fall in love with the sight of golden mountains at the sunset time. Trust me the view will be really breathtaking! You’ll be compelled to forget all your tiredness. You’ll spend a night at Namche Bazaar.

Day 03: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

The third day of trek begins with another early start (around 6 am) through narrow trails. On the trail, you’ll stop in several places to get the outstanding views of Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Everest, Mt. Tabuchi, Mt. Thamserku etc.

After few hours of walks, trails take you to the hilltop village of Tengboche via rhododendron forested area.

Tengboche is famous for the largest monastery of Khumbu region i.e. Tengboche Monastery.

Day 04: Trek to Dingboche

On the fourth day, the trek begins with first descend through the rhododendron forests and then gradual steep climbs. After climbing countless mani stones, first you’ll reach Pangboche.

Again, the trail ascended and past Shomare and Orsho to Dingboche and here you’ll spend your night.

Dingboche is famous for a summer settlement for yak grazing. On the way to Dingboche, you’ll see a lot of yaks grazing over a slope of the cliff. The amazing view of mountains like Lhotse, Amadablam, and Taboche will be beyond your expectations.

Day 05: Trek to Lobuche

On the fifth day, the trail leads via little upwards climb and you’ll walk into grassland area.

After crossing the suspension bridge to Thukla, a steep hike will take you to the Lobuche pass. You’ll see different colorful prayer flags, Khagan Chorten, and a cemetery ground with hundreds of cairn memorials for those who died on the mountain.

Besides, Lobuche offers some breathtaking views of mountains. There is also a high altitude research center which can help with communication for the rescue operation.

Day 06: Trek to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp

On the sixth day, you’ll finally be in the base camp which will definitely make you proud and excited to be near to the top of the world.

After all your dream to be on the top of the world will be fulfilled!

Today’s trail will be smoothly up and down. After having the hot breakfast, first, you’ll head towards to Gorak Shep over the wide trails and with the view of the Khumbu glacier and mountains.

After you reached Gorakshep, taking some rest you’ll head to Everest Base Camp, the main attraction of this trek.

The major highlight of the day is many mountain views including Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Khumbutse, and Mt. Lingtren.

After enjoying some beautiful moments at Everest Base Camp you’ll again be back to Gorak Shep for the overnight.

Day 07: Trek to Kala Pathar and back to Pheriche

On the seventh day, early in the morning, you’ll hike up to Kala Patthar. From Kala Patthar 360-degree of panoramic mountain view along with Khumbu Glacier will look amazing.

After reaching the Kala Patthar viewpoint, your breath is truly taken away!

Actually, you’ll see the Mt. Everest again close and personal.

Once you’re done with relishing the mountains then you’ll trek back to Gorak Shep and then descend to Pheriche. Pheriche is another beautiful valley surrounded by rocky hills and mountains. You’ll spend a night at Pheriche.

Trekking hours: 7 hours

Day 08: Trek to Namche Bazaar

On the eighth day, you’ll trek back to Namche Bazaar. Again by following the Dudh Koshi river, you will encounter the tree line and return through the same trail. You’ll stop at a different place for a tea break and lunch break.

You’ll again cross the suspension bridge and pass via rhododendron and pine forests. Here, you’ll get a perfect scenery of breathtaking mountain vistas. The trail continues via passing different Mani stone, Chorten, and Stupas. Then, you’ll reach Namche Bazaar and spend rest of the night.

Day 09: Trek back to Lukla

On the ninth day of your trek, you’ll back down to the small airstrip at Lukla, where you’ll catch your flight back to Kathmandu. The trail continues along the Dudh Koshi river with the flashback of past 10 days trek.

After a long hike, likely 8 hours, you’ll reach Lukla. Once you reach Lukla, you can celebrate your achievement and cherish your amazing journey. Spend overnight at Lukla.

Day 10: Fly to Kathmandu from Lukla and transfer to your Hotel 1 hour

On the final day of the trek, you’ll take your beautiful flight back to Kathmandu. Once again saying a heartfelt goodbye to the majestic mountains. Finally, you’ll land at Kathmandu airport and transferred to your respective hotel.

Note:

All trekking hours mentioned above are approximate and you can use it as a rough guide.

Please note the weather of the Himalayan region is unpredictable. Thus, it is possible that the domestic flights from Kathmandu to Lukla might get a delay or even cancel for a day or more. So, it’s better to add a couple of extra days before and after your trek.

Although this doesn’t happen during the peak trekking seasons, you need to plan accordingly.
